Rochester, New York Transit System Reimagined
Information Design
background: The Rochester Industrial and Rapid Transit Railway, more commonly known as the
Rochester Subway was constructed in the bed of the Erie canal and launched in 1927 to combat interurban traffic and facilitate freight interchange between railroads

A Brief History of the Rochester Subway
Task: Using the old subway system from 1928, re-imagine the routes, iconography, color, and design of the map in the updated style of Massimo Vignelli by building upon the existing modernized version of the Rochester subway map.

Objectives:
1. Create a conceptual updated system of subway lines based on an analysis of the current Greater Rochester Area that reflects the current neighborhoods, parks, schools, landmarks, and other newly developed destinations.

2. Develop a system of iconography to identify pertinent locations and stops along the subway line.

3.  Define a color and visual system in order to easily differentiate each subway line and indicate possible transfers and connections.
